Well I can't eat breakfast today as I have to return to doctors surgery for some fasting blood tests, (oh what joy) I will take a banana and dried fruit with me for after the test as today I have to go to work for the first day since I started taking orlistat.
Blood test was a breeze results in a couple of days (hopefully there will be no signs of diabetes, but I have no symptoms so am feeling confidents about that).
Returned to work to find my boss had brought in a chocolate fudge cake for a celebration, ( I didn't know what to say, so I told her I would have some later, then pretended I just forgot although I could hear it shouting me through the fridge door) I have not told anyone that I am taking orlistat except my husband, mum and sister. (oh and whoever reads this).

Day 1:
Well after long consideration and research I finally took the plunge and visited my GP yesterday to ask him to prescribe Orlistat 120mg (Xenical). After a few basic tests, weight, blood pressure etc we talked about changes to diet and incresing physical activity, and so on and so on... After my consultaion he sent me away with a prescription for one month supply (84 tablets). As I mentioned I had already carefully researched the drug and its side effect including long term effects and although they seemed shocking I decided that desperate times call for desperate measures.
Instructions for use:
Take one tablet three times a day, with main meal food, (breakfast, lunch, supper)
Common side effects: (as stated on patient information leaflet)
Bloating, excess gas, oily stools, urgent need for the loo to number 2.
How it workes:
Orlistat binds about 30% of the digested fat and basically pushes it out the other end.
It is recommended that no more than 30% of the calories in a meal should be taken from fats. This has taken me a while to get my head around because I read it any food with les than 30% fat would be ok, this is not the case. Its not perfect but after a few calculations I have discoved a method of working it out, per 100g - fat grams/caloriesX950 give a fairly accurate calories from fat %. for example....
A bag savoury rice snacks (snak a jacks) per 100g
Calories 408cals
Fat 6.1g
6.1/408= 0.015 x 950 = 14.2 There for 14.2% of the calories are taken from fat.
Anyway I woke up this morning and as I was about to consume my breakfast of Fruit and Fibre with semiskimmed milk I popped my first pill.
About 2 hours after breakfast I had a little tummy grumbling and a little achy discomfort but nothing to complain about really.
Same again at lunch time reduced fat cheese salad sandwich and a bag of barbeque snack a jacks with a little blue pill and a can of pepsi max.
Again a little achy discomfort in my stomach but not enough to stop me doing anything and I am thinking about it constantly waiting for my toilet visits to start.
My husband decided it would be good to go out into town Saturday night, I was a little worried about drinking alcoholic drinks but according to my tablet pack instructions there should be no effects, so I did the usual stupid trick of about 10 bottles of lager (small ones).
